The Atlanta Hawks play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the State Farm Arena on Sunday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in a rut as they will be hoping to put an end to a three-game skid after falling painfully short to the Bucks in a 127-125 road loss on Wednesday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 36 points and nine assists on 12 of 22 shooting, Kelly Oubre Jr. added 25 points off the bench, Miles Bridges scored 22 points while Gordon Hayward chipped in with 18 points and five assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 49 percent from the field and 21 of 51 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 41 points in the first quarter to build an early 18-point lead, before coming up just short as the Bucks’ Antetokounmpo made the game-winning shot with just two seconds remaining.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Hawks have been in great form as they’ve won eight of their past 10 games, but they will be eager to bounce back after getting stopped in their tracks by the 76ers in a 98-96 home loss on Friday. Trae Young led the team in scoring with 25 points and 10 assists, John Collins added 18 points with eight rebounds and two blocks while Danilo Gallinari chipped in with 18 points, eight rebounds and three assists off the bench. As a team, the Hawks shot 41 percent from the field and 10 of 28 from the 3-point line as they poured in 35 points in the third quarter to lead by as many as 11 points, before going ice cold in the fourth quarter as they scored just six points in the final 11:03 to allow the 76ers to run them down.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 road games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record. The Hawks are 28-12 ATS in their last 40 home games, 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall and the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in Atlanta.
Trae Young, Cam Reddish and Kevin Huerter are all listed as questionable for the Hawks, while the Hornets will be without Terry Rozier and LaMelo Ball. It’s always tough to pick a game with so many players missing, but the Hawks are the deeper team in better form and they should still have enough firepower to get the job done at home.
