The Orlando Magic play host to the Denver Nuggets at the Amway Center on Wednesday night.
The Denver Nuggets really struggled without their leader as they dropped six straight games, before snapping out of it with a 120-111 road win over the Heat on Monday. Nikola Jokic returned from injury to lead the team with 24 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists on nine of 14 shooting, Aaron Gordon added 20 points with five assists, Bones Hyland scored 19 points off the bench while Will Barton chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Nuggets shot a sizzling 58 percent from the field and 18 of 35 from the 3-point line as they dominated right from the start and poured in 63 points in the first half to lead by as many as 24 points, before cruising in the second half as the Heat didn’t cut the lead to single digits until the very end.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been in a major slump as they’ve lost 10 of their past 11 games and they will be hoping to arrest a seven-game slide after falling just short to the 76ers in a 101-96 road win on Monday. Franz Wagner led the team with 27 points and five assists on 11 of 24 shooting, Jalen Suggs added 17 points, Gary Harris scored 16 points while Mo Bamba chipped in with 11 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks. As a team, the Magic shot just 41 percent from the field and eight of 33 from the 3-point line as they fought hard to rally back from an early 16-point deficit to tie the game with just 57.8 seconds remaining, only to see the 76ers close the game on an 8-3 run to steal the game.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a win and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Magic are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 home games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the Nuggets are 7-1-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall and the Nuggets are 4-0-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Orlando.
The Nuggets are still without Jamal Murray and JaMychal Green is listed as questionable, but the Magic are missing a host of players including Jonathan Isaac, E’Twaun Moore and maybe even Jalen Suggs as he is dealing with a thumb injury. Jokic hit the ground running in his return to the lineup on Monday and I think he’ll follow that up with another big game here. The Nuggets are 4-0-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Orlando and I think that trend continues here as they escape with the easy win.
