The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Philadelphia 76ers duke it out at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in fine form as they’ve won six of their past nine games, but they will be itching to bounce back here after having their five-game win streak halted by the Hornets in a 133-115 road loss last night. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 25 points, seven rebounds and six assists, D’Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley each scored 18 points while Anthony Edwards chipped in with 11 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 45 percent from the field and 11 of 35 from the 3-point line, but they were poor on the defensive end as they allowed the Hornets to shoot impressive figures of 55 percent from the field and 23 of 40 from the 3-point line. Jaden McDaniels scored just four points on two of seven shooting, Naz Reid scored just five points on one of six shooting while Edwards was barely a factor in this one.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have been in a real slump as they’ve lost seven of their last nine games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Warriors in a 116-96 road loss on Wednesday. Seth Curry led the team with 24 points on eight of 16 shooting, Tyrese Maxey added 19 points with five assists while Danny Green chipped in with 10 points off the bench, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the 76ers shot 42 percent from the field and eight of 28 from the 3-point line as they poured in 34 points in the first quarter to take an early 19-point lead, before getting run down in the second half where they got outscored by 64-35. Andre Drummond had a night to forget as he finished with just one point on zero of five shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days’ rest, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. The 76ers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the over is 8-2-1 in the last 11 meetings in Philadelphia, 1-7 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and the Timberwolves are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings in Philadelphia.
The 76ers haven’t been playing well lately and their confidence took another hit after last night’s blowout loss to the red-hot Warriors on Wednesday. The Timberwolves were playing some of their best basketball of the season before last night’s loss to the Hornets, so they look tempting as the road underdogs in this spot. The 76ers will be well-rested as they haven’t played since Wednesday, but assuming that Harris it out, I’d rather lean towards the Timberwolves to bounce back in this spot.
