The Phoenix Suns invade Madison Square Garden to battle the New York Knicks on Friday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been on fire lately and they will be eager to build on their current 14-game win streak after sneaking past the Cavaliers in a 120-115 road win on Wednesday. Devin Booker led the team with 35 points on 14 of 21 shooting, Chris Paul added 17 points with 12 assists while DeAndre Ayton chipped in with 16 points on eight of 12 shooting. As a team, the Suns shot 52 percent from the field and eight of 22 from the 3-point line as they trailed at halftime despite pouring in 36 points in the first quarter, but they worked their way back into the contest and closed the game on a 11-6 run in the final 1:45 to escape with the win. Cameron Payne had a rough night as he scored just seven points on three of 11 shooting off the bench while Jae Crowder scored just seven points on one of six shooting.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in decent shape as they’ve split their last 10 games and they will be looking to build some momentum after outlasting the Lakers in a 106-100 home win on Tuesday. Evan Fournier drained six 3-pointers to lead the team with 26 points, Julius Randle added 20 points, 16 rebounds and five assists while Immanuel Quickley chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Knicks shot 45 percent from the field and 15 of 34 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 36 points to lead by as many as 25 points, before using a 14-6 run in the fourth quarter to pull away and escape with the win. Kemba Walker struggled once again as he finished with just six points on two of six shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Knicks are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games, 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games playing on two days’ rest and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the Suns are 16-5-1 ATS in the last 22 meetings overall and the Suns are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in New York.
The Suns are obviously coming into this game as the team in better form as they’re currently riding a 14-game win streak, but five of their last six games have been by single digits, so it’s not like they’ve been blowing teams away. The Knicks have yet to really hit their stride this season as they still have issues with their starting lineup, but they will take plenty of confidence from their win over the Lakers on Tuesday. Everyone wants to be the team that breaks the Suns’ win streak, so I’m expecting the Knicks to come out firing here, but they could be shorthanded as Mitchell Robinson and Derrick Rose are both listed as day to day. The Suns are 9-2 ATS in the last 11 meetings in New York and I think they represent decent value with the short line her.
