The Charlotte Hornets play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in great shape as they’ve won six of their past eight games overall and they will be gunning for a season-high sixth straight victory after blowing past the Heat in a 113-101 home win on Wednesday. Anthony Edwards led the team with 33 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and three steals, Malik Beasley added 29 points off the bench while D’Angelo Russell chipped in with 20 points and six assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot just 40 percent from the field and 18 of 55 from the 3-point line, but this win was about their defense as they struggled in the first half to trail by as many as 12 points, before taking over in the second half where they held the Heat to just 39 points to win comfortably in the end.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in red-hot form as they’ve won seven of their past eight games and they will be gunning for a third straight victory after outlasting the Magic in a 106-99 road win on Wednesday. Terry Rozier led the team with 27 points, five assists and six steals, LaMelo Ball added 22 points while Kelly Oubre Jr. chipped in with 21 points off the bench. As a team, the Hornets shot just 41 percent from the field and 12 of 41 from the 3-point line, as they held the Magic to just 21 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime, before using another 11-4 run in the fourth quarter to pull away late.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. The Hornets are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the Timberwolves are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Timberwolves have come to life with a five-game win streak and they really surprised me in their upset win over the Heat on Wednesday. The Hornets have quietly been one of the hottest teams in the league lately and they are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games. You can make an argument for either side here, but the Hornets have been on fire lately and I think they can stay hot with another win and cover with the line so short.
