The Detroit Pistons pay a visit to the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staples Center on Friday afternoon.
The Detroit Pistons have been in a slump as they’ve lost five of their past six games and they will be hoping to put an end to a four-game slide after getting run over by the Bucks in a 114-93 road loss on Wednesday. Trey Lyles led the team in scoring with 19 points off the bench, Jerami Grant and Saadiq Bey each scored 13 points while Saben Lee chipped in with 12 points and four assists. As a team, the Pistons shot just 35 percent from the field and 11 of 45 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by 12 points at halftime, before getting blown out in the fourth quarter where they managed just 19 points. Frank Jackson had a rough night as he scored just six points on three of 10 shooting while Cory Joseph played just seven minutes before leaving the game with a sprained right ankle.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in a rut as they’ve lost three of their last four games and they will be eager to bounce back after getting stopped by the Mavericks in a 112-104 overtime home loss on Tuesday. Reggie Jackson led the team in scoring with 31 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, Paul George added 26 points with nine rebounds and nine assists while Marcus Morris and Ivica Zubac each scored 10 points. As a team, the Clippers shot just 41 percent from the field and 10 of 32 from the 3-point line as they rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime on a clutch 3-pointer at the buzzer, only to go ice-cold as they scored just one point in overtime. Eric Bledsoe had a night to forget as he scored just two points in 25 minutes of action.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 road games, 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss. The Clippers are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games playing on two days’ rest and 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record.
Head to head, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall.
The Pistons have struggled to get anything going this season and their confidence took another hit after getting thrashed by the Bucks in their last outing. The Clippers haven’t been much better as they’ve lost three of their last four, but they are looking more dangerous with Jackson starting to heat up alongside George. The Pistons will hang around in the first half, but the Clippers need a win to get back on track and I think they get it done easily in this spot.
