The Indiana Pacers play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past five games and they will be eager to bounce back in this one after getting stopped by the Knicks in a 106-100 road loss last night. Russell Westbrook led the team with a triple-double of 31 points with 13 rebounds and 10 assists, Anthony Davis added 20 points while Avery Bradley chipped in with 15 points and nine rebounds. As a team, the Lakers shot 37 percent from the field and 11 of 36 from the 3-point line as they got off to a sloppy start and quickly found themselves trailing by as many as 25 points before working their way back into the contest in the third quarter to tie the game. However, the Lakers ran out of steam and managed just 19 points in the third quarter to allow the Knicks to pull away late. Carmelo Anthony had a rough shooting night as he shot just three of 14 for his 12 points while Talen Horton-Tucker finished scoreless on zero of eight shooting.
Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers have been in decent shape as they’ve won seven of their past 12 games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after blowing past the Bulls in a 109-77 road win on Monday. Domantas Sabonis led the team with 21 points, 11 rebounds and four assists, Malcolm Brogdon added 16 points with seven assists, Justin Holiday scored 14 points while Myles Turner chipped in with 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. As a team, the Pacers shot 44 percent from the field and 13 of 31 from the 3-point line, but this win was more about their defense as they held the Bulls to just 16 points in the first quarter to take the early double-digit lead, before holding them to just 31 points in the second half to make it a complete blowout. All five starters finished in double figures in scoring and they outrebounded the Bulls by 59-38.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18 games against a team with a losing record and 6-15 ATS in their last 21 games overall. The Pacers are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games playing on one days’ rest.
Head to head, the over is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings in Indiana, the Lakers are 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings in Indiana and the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Lakers will be disappointed with last night’s loss as they were always playing from behind after getting off to such a bad start, but the good news is that LeBron James is expected to return after serving his one-game suspension last night. The Pacers have yet to fully hit their stride this season, but they’ve been playing well recently and are coming off their best win of the season after suffocating the red-hot Bulls on Monday. It’s hard to split these two teams at this point of the season, but with the Lakers playing this one on zero days’ rest, I’m leaning towards the Pacers to get the job done at home in a close one.
