The Charlotte Hornets and the Orlando Magic collide at the Amway Center on Wednesday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in great shape as they’ve won six of their past seven games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Wizards in a 109-103 road win on Monday. Terry Rozier drained eight 3-pointers to lead the team with 32 points, LaMelo Ball added 28 points with 13 rebounds, seven assists and three steals while Gordon Hayward chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 44 percent from the field and 15 of 31 from the 3-point line as they poured in 33 points in the second quarter to build a 17-point lead, before having to hold off a late charge from the Wizards who cut the lead to just two points with 51.6 seconds remaining. Rozier capped off his big night from a clutch 3-pointer with 13.7 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Hornets.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been in a slump as they’ve lost six of their past seven games and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game slide after getting thrashed by the Bucks in a 123-92 road loss on Monday. Moritz Wagner led the team in scoring with 18 points off the bench, RJ Hampton added 14 points with eight rebounds and five assists while Mychal Mulder and Robin Lopez each scored 13 points. As a team, the Magic shot just 36 percent from the field and 11 of 41 from the 3-point line, but this was one of those games that was decided in a hurry as the Magic were trailing by 20 points in the first quarter and 41 points at halftime. In fact, the Magic trailed by as many as 51 points in this one before the second unit made a run in the fourth quarter to keep the final score somewhat respectable.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Magic are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 home games, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 8-17 ATS in their last 25 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 11-4 in the last 15 meetings in Orlando, the Hornets are 13-6 ATS in the last 19 meetings overall and the Hornets are 15-5 ATS in the last 20 meetings in Orlando.
The Hornets have quietly been one of the hottest teams in the league and they’re not missing any key players, while the Magic are already without Cole Anthony and could also be without Gary Harris who is questionable for this one. I’m sure the Magic will come out firing after getting embarrassed in their last outing, but the Hornets are 15-5 ATS in the last 20 meetings in Orlando and I think that trend continues here.
