The New York Knicks play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent shape as they’ve split their last eight games and they will be looking to build some momentum after stopping a three-game slide with a 121-116 road win over the Pistons on Sunday. Anthony Davis led the team with 30 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and five blocks, Russell Westbrook racked up 26 points with nine rebounds and 10 assists while Carmelo Anthony chipped in with 18 points on five of eight shooting off the bench. As a team, the Lakers shot 48 percent from the field and 10 of 31 from the 3-point line as they struggled for most of the game and trailed by as many as 16 points in the third quarter, before taking over in the fourth quarter where they outscored the Pistons by 37-17 to escape with the much-needed victory. LeBron James was ejected after his left elbow and hand appeared to contact the Pistons’ Isaiah Stewards’ face and has been suspended for one game.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past six games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting stopped by the Bulls in a 109-103 road loss on Sunday. Julius Randle led the team with 34 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, Alec Burks added 13 points while Immanuel Quickley chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Knicks shot just 41 percent from the field and seven of 27 from the 3-point line as they recovered from a slow first half and took the lead after holding the Bulls to just 21 points in the third quarter, but it all came undone in the fourth quarter where the Bulls exploded for 37 points to snatch the game from them. Kemba Walker scored just seven points on three of nine shooting while Evan Fournier finished with just three points on one of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 6-15 ATS in their last 21 games overall. The Knicks are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the over is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall, the Lakers are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in New York and the Lakers are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Lakers were struggling during their three-game skid, so they really needed that comeback win over the Pistons on Sunday, but it came at a cost as James will be serving his one-game suspension for his altercation during the win. The Knicks have yet to rediscover their form from the start of the season and they could be shorthanded in this one as Derrick Rose is questionable, Taj Gibson is doubtful, while Mitchell Robinson has already been ruled out. Both teams are coming into this one missing some key players, but the combination of Westbrook and Davis really started to shine in the Lakers’ comeback win over the Pistons and I think they will be key in this one. This should be a close one, but I think the Lakers escape with the much-needed win behind a big game from Davis.
