The Brooklyn Nets travel to the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse to take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in great shape lately as they’ve won 10 of their past 12 games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after outlasting the Magic in a 115-113 home win on Friday. James Harden led the team with 36 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, Patty Mills added 22 points on nine of 13 shooting, James Johnson scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Nets shot 45 percent from the field and 10 of 33 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and fell behind by as many as 19 points after allowing 41 points in the first quarter. However, they poured in 37 points in the third quarter to erase most of the deficit, before finishing the job in the fourth quarter to escape with the narrow win. Kevin Durant was a late scratch due to a shoulder sprain.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have cooled off in recent games as they’ve lost four of their past six games and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game slide after getting blown out by the Warriors in a 104-89 home loss on Thursday. Darius Garland led the team with 25 points and five assists, Dean Wade added 17 points with nine rebounds and five assists, Kevin Love added 17 points off the bench while Ricky Rubio chipped in with 10 points and five assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot just 42 percent from the field and 12 of 39 from the 3-point line as they got off to a nice start and looked to be in complete control after leading by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, before getting completely ambushed in the fourth quarter where they were outscored by 36-8.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games playing on two days’ rest and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win. The Cavaliers are 19-43-1 ATS in their last 63 games against a team with a winning record, 8-22-1 ATS in their last 31 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings overall and the Nets are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Cleveland.
The Cavaliers are already without Collin Sexton, and they’ve now added Cedi Osman to the injury report so the Cavaliers will be shorthanded in this one. The Nets have their own injuries to deal with, but they still have more than enough talent even if Kevin Durant decides to sit out again. The Nets are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Cleveland and I think that trend continues here as they escape with the win and cover.
