The Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Clippers duke it out at the Staples Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in decent shape as they’ve won five of their past eight games overall, but they’ve lost their last two games since Luka Doncic went down and they will be eager to bounce back after falling short to the Suns in a 112-104 road loss on Friday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 23 points and 12 rebounds on eight of 13 shooting, Tim Hardaway Jr. added 18 points, Jalen Brunson added 18 points with 10 assists while Dorian Finney-Smith chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 41 percent from the field and 12 of 40 from the 3-point line as they poured in 33 points in the third quarter to take a six-point lead late in the third quarter, only to get blown out in the fourth quarter where the Suns opened with a pivotal 15-2 run to run away with it in the end. The Mavericks starters did a decent job, but no bench player scored more than eight points. Frank Ntilikina had a night to forget as he finished with just four points on zero of seven shooting.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost three of their last four games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting routed by the slumping Pelicans in a 94-81 road loss on Friday. Paul George led the team in scoring with 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists, Nicolas Batum added 12 points while Isaiah Hartenstein and Terance Mann each scored 11 points, but no other player scored more than eight points. As a team, the Clippers shot just 37 percent from the field and nine of 37 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates to an early 20-point lead in the first quarter, only to go completely ice-cold in the second half where they scored just 26 points to allow the Pelicans to win comfortably in the end. The Clippers were playing this one on zero days’ rest and it showed as George shot just eight of 26 from the field, Reggie Jackson scored just four points on two of 11 shooting while Luke Kennard scored just six points on two of 12 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. The Clippers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a loss of more than 10 points and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games playing on one days’ rest.
Head to head, the under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings overall, the Mavericks are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Los Angeles.
Luka Doncic is currently listed as questionable for this one, so the Mavericks could be shorthanded once again, but they were more than competitive in both losses to the Suns and they’re getting plenty of production from Porzingis and Brunson who have picked up the slack. The Clippers were rolling through teams before going cold in their last four games and George will be eager to bounce back with a big game after struggling on Friday. I can see why the Clippers have opened as favorites at home, but the Mavericks could’ve beat the Suns in at least one of their two losses and I think they can get it done here.
