The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Brooklyn Nets collide at the Barclays Center on Wednesday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great form lately as they’ve won six of their past eight games, but they will be looking to bounce back in this spot after falling just short to the Celtics in a 98-92 home loss on Monday. Ricky Rubio led the team with 28 points, Cedi Osman added 26 points on 10 of 17 shooting off the bench while Isaac Okoro chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 38 percent from the field and 16 of 40 from the 3-point line as they took the early lead after holding the Celtics to just 37 points in the first half, before falling just short as they trailed by just one point with 1:28 remaining before allowing the Celtics to escape on free throws. Evan Mobley had a night to forget as he scored just one point on zero of 11 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been on a tear lately as they’ve won eight of their past 10 games, but they will be hoping to bounce back after falling to the Warriors in a 117-99 home loss last night. James Harden led the team with 24 points on six of 13 shooting, Kevin Durant added 19 points while Bruce Brown chipped in with 14 points, but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Nets shot 38 percent from the field and 10 of 36 from the 3-point line as they trailed by just five points at halftime, before getting completely blown out in the third quarter to fall behind by 28 points as they fell victim to a shooting display from the Warriors’ Stephen Curry. Durant had a rough night as he shot just six of 19 from the field, Blake Griffin finished with just four points on zero of four shooting while Patty Mills scored just eight points in a rare start.
Looking at the betting trends, the Cavaliers are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games, 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall. The Nets are 15-5 ATS in their last 20 home games and 21-10 ATS in their last 31 games as a favorite.
The Cavaliers have been flying under the radar this season, but they were in great form before falling just short to the Celtics on Monday, so they will be quietly confident coming into this one. The Nets were on fire before getting stopped in their tracks by the league-leading Warriors last night, so they will be itching to bounce back in this one. It’s hard to see the Nets losing two home games in two nights, but the Cavaliers have been punching above their weight this season and I think they can hang around and get the cover in this one.
