The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Denver Nuggets at the American Airlines Center on Monday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in red-hot form as they’ve won seven of their past nine games and they will be aiming for a sixth straight victory after blowing past the Trailblazers in a 124-95 home win last night. Nikola Jokic led the team with 28 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, Bones Hyland added 18 points off the bench while Monte Morris chipped in with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Nuggets shot 52 percent from the field and 19 of 40 from the 3-point line as they held the Trailblazers to just 18 points in the first quarter to take the early double-digit lead, before holding them to just 16 points in the fourth quarter to make it a blowout. As a team, the Nuggets outrebounded the Trailblazers by 49-36 and their bench combined for an impressive 63 points.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been in fine form as they’ve won four of their past five games and they will be looking to stay hot after routing the Spurs in a 123-109 road win on Friday. Luka Doncic led the team with a triple-double of 32 points with 12 rebounds and 15 assists, Kristaps Porzingis added 32 points on 12 of 22 shooting while Jalen Brunson chipped in with 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Mavericks shot 46 percent from the field and 18 of 45 from the 3-point line as they poured in 68 points in the first half to take control early, before outscoring the Spurs by 34-20 in the third quarter to lead by as many as 27 points. Tim Hardaway Jr. had a rough night as he finished with just five points on two of 11 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a winning home record. The Mavericks are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games playing on two days’ rest and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
The Nuggets are currently one of the hottest teams in the league despite the injuries and suspensions they’ve had to deal with already and their confidence must be sky-high after destroying the Trailblazers by 29 points last night. The Mavericks have been building nicely also and they have the advantage of extra rest in this one as they haven’t played since Friday. This is a tough one to pick as I could easily see the Nuggets pulling off the upset here, but with the line so short, I’m sticking with the Mavericks to get the win and cover in this one.
