The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Memphis Grizzlies at the Smoothie King Center on Saturday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost three of their past four games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting stomped by the Suns in a 119-94 home loss last night. Ja Morant led the team with 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists on 10 of 19 shooting, Jaren Jackson Jr. added 19 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring as the Grizzlies struggled right from the start, falling behind by 19 points at halftime, before seeing the deficit balloon to 38 points as the Suns ran riot in the third quarter to put the game to bed early. Desmond Bane had a rough night as he scored just nine points on four of 13 shooting while De’Anthony Melton scored just three points on one of five shooting.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been the worst team in the league so far as they’ve lost 12 of their first 13 games and they will be hoping to avoid a 10th straight defeat after last night’s 120-112 loss to the Nets. Jonas Valanciunas led the team with 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, Garrett Temple added 17 points, Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 16 points while Devonte’ Graham chipped in with 14 points and six assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot 48 percent from the field and 13 of 32 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from a 21-point deficit to take the lead midway through the fourth quarter, before the Nets made one final push to steal the game late.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a losing home record and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against a team below .400. The Pelicans are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days’ rest, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall, the Grizzlies are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in New Orleans and the Grizzlies are 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Grizzlies have been struggling for consistency this season and their confidence took a major hit after getting scorched by the Suns in a big loss at home last night. The Pelicans have been the coldest team in the league as they’re still stuck on just one win so far, but they looked great last night despite losing to the Nets. The Grizzlies are clearly the better team in this matchup and I’m sure they will come out firing after last night’s embarrassing loss to the Suns, so I’m going with the Grizzlies at the short line.
