The Portland Trailblazers invade the Toyota Center to do battle with the Houston Rockets on Friday night.
The Portland Trailblazers have been in a real slump lately as they’ve lost five of their past seven games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting stopped by the Suns in a 119-109 road loss on Wednesday. Damian Lillard led the team with 28 points, seven rebounds and seven assists on 12 of 23 shooting, Norman Powell added 23 points while CJ McCollum chipped in with 18 points and seven assists. As a team, the Trailblazers shot 48 percent from the field and seven of 30 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by 13 points at halftime after managing just 21 points in the third quarter, before seeing their fourth quarter rally come up short as the Suns finished with a flurry to win comfortably in the end.
Meanwhile, the Houston Rockets have really struggled this season as they’ve lost 10 of their first 11 games overall and they will be hoping to snap a nine-game slide after getting stopped by the Pistons in a 112-104 home loss on Wednesday. Jalen Green led the team with 23 points, Christian Wood added 20 points with nine rebounds and three assists while Kevin Porter Jr. chipped in with 18 points and five assists. As a team, the Rockets shot just 42 percent from the field and 12 of 34 from the 3-point line as they got off to a nice start to take the lead going into halftime, but they had no answer for the Pistons’ Jerami Grant who scorched them for a season-high 35 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trailblazers are 0-8 ATS in their last eight road games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Rockets are 15-38 ATS in their last 53 home games, 16-36 ATS in their last 52 games against a team with a losing record and 6-22 ATS in their last 28 games as a home underdog.
Head to head, the under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings overall and the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Houston.
The Trailblazers have yet to hit their stride this season and their confidence will be low after falling to the Suns on Wednesday for their second straight loss, but Lillard is starting to rediscover his range so it just feels like the Trailblazers will turn things around sooner rather than later. I can’t say the same about the Rockets who have been officially labelled the worst team in the league after their loss to the Pistons on Wednesday. The Trailblazers have lost all six of their road games so far this season but I think that ends here as they escape with a win and cover.
