The New York Knicks pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Friday night.
The New York Knicks have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost four of their past six games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Bucks in a 112-100 home loss on Wednesday. Derrick Rose led the team in scoring with 22 points and seven assists off the bench, Immanuel Quickley added 18 points while Julius Randle chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Knicks shot 43 percent from the field and 16 of 37 from the 3-point line as they stormed all the way back from a 24-point deficit, only to get blown out again as the Bucks finished with a flurry. The starters were once again the problem as they combined for just 32 points with Randle the only player finished in double figures in scoring.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in a slump as they’ve lost six of their past eight games, but they will be eager to build some momentum after putting a halt to a five-game slide with a 118-108 road win over the Grizzlies on Wednesday. Kelly Oubre Jr. led the team with a season-high 37 points on 13 of 17 shooting off the bench, Gordon Hayward added 25 points with five assists while LaMelo Ball chipped in with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 45 percent from the field and 15 of 36 from the 3-point line as they held the Grizzlies to just 16 points in the second quarter to take the early lead, before exploding for 37 points in the fourth quarter to pull away late and finish with the much-needed win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 17-7 ATS in their last 24 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Hornets are 1-4 ATS in their last five games as an underdog, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall.
The Knicks haven’t been anywhere near their best in their last six games or so and you have to point the finger of blame at their starting lineup and coach Thibodeau as the second unit has been working fine as we saw in the loss to the Bucks on Wednesday. The Hornets were in a major slump before Wednesday’s much-needed win over the Grizzlies, but it took a monster night from Oubre Jr. to get the job done. This is a tough one to pick but the Knicks are 17-7 ATS in their last 24 road games and I think they can bounce back with a narrow win here.
