The Detroit Pistons and the Cleveland Cavaliers duke it out at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Friday night.
The Detroit Pistons have been doing it tough this season as they’ve lost eight of their first 10 games, but they will be looking to build some momentum after putting a halt to a four-game slide after beating the Rockets by 112-104 on Wednesday. Jerami Grant led the team with a season-high 35 points on 12 of 23 shooting, Cade Cunningham added 20 points while Saddiq Bey chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Pistons shot 43 percent from the field and 16 of 48 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 14-point lead, before taking over in the second half where they poured in 63 points to escape with the much-needed win.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have been in great form lately as they’ve won seven of their past 10 games, but they will be eager to bounce back in this one after having their four-game win streak snapped by the Wizards in a 97-94 home loss on Wednesday. Ricky Rubio led the team with 20 points and five assists off the bench, Evan Mobley and Darius Garland each scored 19 points while Jarrett Allen chipped in with 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 46 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they took control in the second quarter and led by as many as 10 points in the fourth quarter, but they went ice-cold when it mattered most as they scored just seven points in the final 6:03.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games, 1-7 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall. The Cavaliers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six home games, 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 games following a loss and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the over is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings overall, the Pistons are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall and the Pistons are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Cleveland.
The Pistons haven’t been able to build any momentum this season, but they’re coming into this one fresh off a rare win thanks to a big game from Grant who led the way with a season-high 35 points. The Cavaliers have been the team in better form this season, but they’ve had to play without Collin Sexton who would’ve made a difference in the team’s narrow loss to the Wizards on Wednesday. There was a lot to like about the Pistons in their last win, but I’m sticking with the more consistent Cavaliers to bounce back with a win and cover at home.
