The Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers duke it out at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night.
The Toronto Raptors have been in decent shape to start the season as they’ve won six of their first 11 games, but they will be hoping to put an end to a three-game skid after getting routed by the Celtics in a 104-88 road loss last night. Scottie Barnes led the team with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Fred VanVleet added 16 points with six assists while OG Anunoby and Gary Trent Jr each scored 14 points. As a team, the Raptors shot 42 percent from the field and six of 25 from the 3-point line as they struggled to hang in the contest right from the start, falling behind by 16 points at halftime before fading away in the second half where they couldn’t get closer than eight points.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have been in fine form as they’ve won eight of their first 12 games, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short to the Bucks in a 118-109 home loss on Tuesday. Tyrese Maxey led the team with 31 points on 12 of 24 shooting, Georges Niang added 21 points off the bench, Shake Milton scored 20 points with six assists while Andre Drummond chipped in with 17 points, 20 rebounds and two blocks. As a team, the 76ers shot just 40 percent from the field and 14 of 43 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates to an early 13-point lead after exploding for 39 points in the first quarter, but they went ice-cold when it really mattered as they scored just seven points in the final 5:42. Joel Embiid sat out the game due to health and safety protocols which should rule him out for Thursday.
Looking at the betting trends, the Raptors are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team above .600. The 76ers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on one days’ rest and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 6-1-1 in the last eight meetings overall and the Raptors are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Philadelphia.
The Raptors have really cooled off lately with three losses in a row and their confidence took a hit after getting blown out by the Celtics last night. The 76ers were rolling through teams before losing Embiid to health and safety protocols which really hurts their depth as they’re already stretched. Pascal Siakam is expected to return to the lineup after resting last night which is a boost for the Raptors while Seth Curry is listed as questionable for the 76ers. It’s always tough playing on zero days’ rest, but I think the Raptors can take advantage of a depleted 76ers team in this spot.
