The Washington Wizards and the Cleveland Cavaliers duke it out at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Wednesday night.
The Washington Wizards have been in great form as they’ve won seven of their first 10 games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after taking down the Bucks in a 101-94 home loss on Sunday. Bradley Beal led the team with 30 points and eight assists on 14 of 22 shooting, Kyle Kuzma added 15 points with 10 rebounds and five assists while Montrezl Harrell chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Wizards shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 27 from the 3-point line as they did just enough to hang in the contest, before taking control in the third quarter where they outscored the Bucks by 33-19 to build themselves a 12-point lead. Spencer Dinwiddie had a quiet night of just six points on two of eight shooting while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored just five points on two of six shooting.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers have quietly been one of the hottest teams in the league lately as they’ve won seven of their past nine games and they will be eager to build on their current four-game win streak after routing the Knicks in a 126-109 road win on Sunday. Ricky Rubio led the team with 37 points and 10 assists on 13 of 19 shooting off the bench, Evan Mobley added 26 points with nine rebounds and five assists, Jarrett Allen racked up 18 points with 17 rebounds and four assists while Darius Garland chipped in with 16 points and five assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot a healthy 54 percent from the field and 19 of 35 from the 3-point line, but it was their defense that was the difference as they held the Knicks to just 18 points in the third quarter to build a double-digit lead, before pouring in 37 points in the fourth quarter to make it a blowout.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 14-6-1 ATS in their last 21 road games, 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games against a team with a wining record and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games as a road favorite. The Cavaliers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five home games, 5-0 ATS in their last five games as an underdog and 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Cleveland, the Wizards are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Cleveland and the Wizards are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Cavaliers leading scorer Collin Sexton suffered a torn left meniscus in Sunday’s win over the Knicks, so they will be shorthanded for this one but it’s hard to write them off as they’ve been surprising a lot of teams lately. The Wizards are coming into this one with plenty of momentum after beating the Bucks on Sunday and they are 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings in Cleveland. This is a tough one to pick, but I’ll stick with the Wizards to stay hot with a win and cover here.
