The Orlando Magic play host to the Brooklyn Nets at the Amway Center on Wednesday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in great shape as they’ve won seven of their first 11 games overall and they were riding a five-game win streak before the Bulls stopped their momentum with a 118-95 road loss on Monday. Kevin Durant led the team with 38 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on 13 of 24 shooting, LaMarcus Aldridge added 19 points off the bench while James Harden chipped in with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. As a team, the Nets shot 39 percent from the field and 11 of 33 from the 3-point line as they held the Bulls to just 16 points in the second quarter to rally back from an early 10-point deficit, before getting completely ambushed in the fourth quarter where the Bulls outscored them by 42-17. Bruce Brown had a rough game as he finished scoreless on zero of eight shooting while Patty Mills scored just five points on two of nine shooting, but this was more about the quality of shots both teams were taking as the Nets were outscored in the paint by 54-24.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have been struggling to start the season as they’ve lost eight of their first 11 games overall, but they will be feeling good coming into this game after upsetting the Jazz in a 107-100 home win on Sunday. Cole Anthony led the team with 33 points on 13 of 20 shooting, Wendell Carter Jr. added 22 points with 15 rebounds and six assists while Franz Wagner chipped in with 10 points. As a team, the Magic shot 49 percent from the field and 12 of 32 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in deep trouble after squandering an early 15-point lead to fall behind by as many as 13 points, but they came to life in the fourth quarter where they outscored the Jazz by 32-15 to escape with their best win of the season so far. The only blemish from the impressive comeback win was Terrence Ross who continues to struggle as he finished with just four points on two of 12 shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a losing record and 19-9 ATS in their last 28 games as a favorite. The Magic are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 home games and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 21-10-3 in the last 34 meetings in Orlando and the Nets are 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings overall.
The Nets come into this one as heavy road favorites as they were on fire before getting stopped in their tracks by the Bulls in a tough loss on Monday. The Magic have endured a rough start to the season, but they will be quietly confident heading into this one after beating the Jazz in a major upset on Sunday. This line seems a little hefty at first, but the Nets are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a losing record and I expect that trend to continue unless Anthony can explode for another big scoring night.
