The New Orleans Pelicans and the Dallas Mavericks duke it out at the American Airlines Center on Monday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost nine of their first 10 games overall and they will be hoping to put an end to a six-game slide after getting destroyed by the Warriors in a 126-85 road loss on Friday. Jonas Valanciunas led the team with 20 points, 15 rebounds and four assists, Devonte’ Graham added 12 points while Josh Hart chipped in with 10 points and nine assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot just 35 percent from the field and 11 of 44 from the 3-point line as they did a decent job of hanging in the contest after allowing 38 points in the first quarter, but they just couldn’t find enough offense to make it look competitive in the second half where they were outscored by 72-35. Kira Lewis Jr. had a night to forget as he scored just two points on one of 10 shooting while Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored eight points on three of 11 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks have been on a roll lately as they’ve won six of their past eight games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after taking down the Celtics in a thrilling 107-104 home win on Saturday. Luka Doncic led the team with 33 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Kristaps Porzingis added 21 points while Reggie Bullock and Jalen Brunson each scored 13 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 52 percent from the field and 13 of 39 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 19-point lead, before stealing the game with time expiring as Doncic hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Mavericks are 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games, 17-35 ATS in their last 52 games against a team with a losing record and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings overall and the Pelicans are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Pelicans have really struggled to get anything going this season because of their long list of injuries and their confidence must be shot after getting blown out by 41 points to the Warriors in their last outing. On the other hand, the Mavericks are a team in great form and their confidence must be through the roof after their dramatic win over the Celtics. There is always a chance of complacency here as the Mavericks could overlook the slumping Pelicans, but I’m sticking with the Mavericks to get job done at home in this spot.
