The Memphis Grizzlies play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the FedExForum on Monday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a slump as they’ve lost five of their past six games and they will be hoping to arrest a four-game slide after getting routed by the Clippers in a 104-84 home loss on Friday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds on seven of 11 shooting, Malik Beasley added 18 points off the bench while Anthony Edwards chipped in with17 points and three blocks. As a team, the Timberwolves shot just 34 percent from the field and 17 of 52 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 33 points in the first quarter to take an early 20-point lead, before getting run down in the second half where they were outscored by 57-27. Taurean Prince finished with just five points on two of eight shooting while Jordan McLaughlin scored just two points on one of seven shooting.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their past five games but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting thrashed by the Wizards in a 115-87 road loss on Friday. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the team in scoring with 13 points, nine rebounds and two blocks, Ja Morant added 11 points while Desmond Bane chipped in with 10 points but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Grizzlies shot a miserly 35 percent from the field and six of 31 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by 13 points at halftime, before getting blown out in the second half where they managed just 40 points. Morant had himself a rough night as he shot just four of 17 from the field while DeAnthony Melton finished with just four points on two of nine shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. The Grizzlies are 23-9 ATS in their last 32 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record.
Head to head, the Timberwolves are 5-16 ATS in the last 21 meetings overall and the Timberwolves are 8-22 ATS in the last 30 meetings in Memphis.
The Timberwolves have been ice-cold lately and they could again be shorthanded as D’Angelo Russell is currently listed as questionable for this one. The Grizzlies were in decent form before getting destroyed by the Wizards and I expect them to bounce back, especially Morant who had his worst game so far this season. The Timberwolves are 5-16 ATS in the last 21 meetings overall and I think that trend continues as the Grizzlies get back in the win column in this one.
