The Houston Rockets and the Denver Nuggets duke it out at the Ball Arena on Saturday night.
The Houston Rockets have been in terrible shape as they’ve lost seven of their first eight games and they will be hoping to arrest a six-game slide after getting routed by the Suns in a 123-111 road loss on Thursday. Kevin Porter Jr. led the team with 20 points, Christian Wood added 18 points with 15 rebounds, five assists and three blocks while Jalen Green chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Rockets shot just 43 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the 3-point line as they poured in 61 points in the first half to take the early lead, but they let all that hard work go to waste in the third quarter where the Suns outscored them by 37-25 to make it a blowout in the end.
Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets have been in decent shape as they’ve split their first eight games, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting stopped by the Grizzlies in a 108-106 road loss on Wednesday. Nikola Jokic led the team with 34 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, Will Barton added 26 points with seven assists while Michael Porter Jr. chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds. As a team, the Nuggets shot 47 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the 3-point line as they poured in 36 points in the second quarter to rally back from an early 20-point deficit to lead by as many as 10 points, but they just ran out of gas at the end as they scored just two points in the final 3:01.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 road games, 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a loss and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss. The Nuggets are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a loss and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Denver and the Rockets are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Denver.
The Rockets haven’t been able to build any momentum this season and their confidence took another hit after the Suns ran past them on Thursday. The Nuggets are clearly the team in better form in this matchup, but they’ve gone cold in their last two outings, so they aren’t exactly a lock in this one. The Rockets are a young group of players all jockeying for roster spots, so they’re going to keep swinging till the end which is why I think they’ll hang around long enough to get the cover here while the Nuggets get the win.
