The San Antonio Spurs and the Orlando Magic collide at the Amway Center on Friday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a real funk as they’ve lost six of their first eight games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling painfully short to the Mavericks in a 109-108 home loss on Wednesday. Dejounte Murray led the team with 23 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, Devin Vassell provided the spark off the bench with 21 points on nine of 12 shooting while Derrick White chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Spurs shot 48 percent from the field and seven of 21 from the 3-point line as they worked hard to lead by as many as 10 points late in the third quarter, only to lose by the smallest margin as they turned it over on the final possession of the game.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have yet to taste any continued success as they’ve lost seven of their first nine games and they will be hoping for a better showing after falling to the Celtics in a 92-79 home loss on Wednesday. Wendell Carter Jr. racked up 13 points with 13 rebounds and four assists, Cole Anthony added 13 points with four assists while RJ Hampton chipped in with 12 points off the bench, but no other player scored more than 10 points. As a team, the Magic shot just 32 percent from the field and nine of 43 from the 3-point line as they scrapped in the first half to take the narrow lead into halftime, before getting ambushed in the third quarter where they were outscored by 31-10.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a losing record. The Magic are 1-10-1 ATS in their last 12 home games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 6-1 in the last seven meetings overall, the Spurs are 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Orlando and the Spurs are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Spurs haven’t been able to build any momentum this season and they will be gutted after falling to the Mavericks by just one point in their last outing. The Magic have really struggled to stay competitive in most games as they don’t have any consistent offense outside of Cole Anthony and they are just 1-10-1 ATS in their last 12 home games. It’s hard to back either team with confidence, but the Spurs were close against the Mavericks and I think they get over the line in this one.
