The Washington Wizards play host to the Memphis Grizzlies at the Capital One Arena on Friday night.
The Memphis Grizzlies are starting to build some momentum now as they’ve won three of their last four games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after outlasting the Nuggets in a 108-106 home win on Wednesday. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the team with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocks, Ja Morant added 18 points with six assists while Desmond Bane chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot a healthy 51 percent from the field and 16 of 34 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 20-point lead after pouring in 37 points in the first quarter, before escaping with the narrow win after Bane hit a critical 3-pointer with the scores tied and just 1:20 remaining.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have cooled off a bit since their hot start to the season as they’re suddenly looking to snap a two-game skid after falling just short to the Raptors in a 109-100 home loss on Wednesday. Bradley Beal led the team with 25 points and seven assists, Montrezl Harrell added 15 points with 10 rebounds and three blocks off the bench while Raul Neto chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Wizards shot 43 percent from the field and eight of 32 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by 16 points after scoring just 19 points in the second quarter which just left them too much ground to make up in the second half. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope had a rough night as he finished with just eight points on four of 13 shooting while Kyle Kuzma scored just two points on one of 10 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Grizzlies are 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Wizards are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a winning record and 25-11-1 ATS in their last 37 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings in Washington and the Grizzlies are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Wizards were one of the hottest teams at the start of the season, but they’ve cooled off with a couple of losses on the trot, so it’s no surprise their barely favorites at home. The Grizzlies are starting to pick up steam now and they will take so much confidence from their hard-fought win over the Nuggets as Jackson Jr. finished with his best game in a long time. The Grizzlies are 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings overall and I think that trend continues here as they pull off the minor upset.
