The Cleveland Cavaliers pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Monday night.
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their past five games, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting stopped by the Suns in a 101-92 road loss on Saturday. Cedi Osman led the team in scoring with 20 points off the bench, Lauri Markkanen, Darius Garland and Kevin Love each scored 11 points while Collin Sexton chipped in with 10 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot just 39 percent from the field and 14 of 44 from the 3-point line as they shot out of the gates with 31 points in the first quarter to take an early 14-point lead, before getting run down in the second and third quarters where they were outscored by a combined 54-34 to trail by as many as 24 points. Ricky Rubio had a night to forget as he finished with just eight points on three of 15 shooting off the bench.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in fine form as they’ve won five of their first seven games and they will be hoping to stay hot after taking down the Trailblazers in a 125-113 home win last night. LaMelo Ball led the team with 27 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, Kelly Oubre Jr. provided the spark off the bench with 26 points and five assists while Miles Bridges chipped in with 19 points and nine assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 51 percent from the field and a sizzling 20 of 42 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by seven points going into halftime, before exploding for 72 points in the second half to win comfortably in the end.
Looking at the betting trends, the Cavaliers are 10-25 ATS in their last 35 road games and 16-41-1 ATS in their last 58 games against a team with a winning record. The Hornets are 26-11-1 ATS in their last 38 games against a team with a losing record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings in Charlotte, the Cavaliers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings in Charlotte.
The Cavaliers haven’t been in the best form as they’ve lost their last two games, but they’ve already surprised a few teams this season, so they know they can cause the upset in this one. The Hornets are clearly the better team in better form, but they will be playing this on zero days’ rest. I might have considered the Cavaliers if we were getting more points, but with the line where it is, I’m sticking with the Hornets to get the win and cover at home.
