The Charlotte Hornets play host to the Portland Trailblazers at the Spectrum Center on Sunday night.
The Portland Trailblazers have been in decent shape lately as they’ve won three of their last four games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Clippers in a 111-92 home win on Friday. Damian Lillard led the team with 25 points and six assists, Jusuf Nurkic racked up 14 points with 17 rebounds and three assists while CJ McCollum scored 14 points on six of 18 shooting. As a team, the Trailblazers shot just 41 percent from the field and 19 of 41 from the 3-point line as they held the Clippers to just 16 points in the second quarter to take the lead into halftime, before finishing with a flurry in the fourth quarter where they poured in 35 points to make it a blowout. The Trailblazers couldn’t do much to slow down Paul George who torched them for 42 points, but they kept a lid on the rest of the Clippers, holding Reggie Jackson to just eight points and Eric Bledsoe to just three points.
Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in fine form as they’ve won four of their first six games, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting stopped in their tracks by the Heat in a 114-99 road loss on Friday. Gordon Hayward led the team with 23 points, six rebounds and four assists, Miles Bridges added 22 points, Kelly Oubre Jr. tallied 17 points while Cody Martin chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Hornets shot just 38 percent from the field and 13 of 37 from the 3-point line but they got off to a slow start on offense and were always fighting an uphill battle after falling behind by as many as 26 points. LaMelo Ball had one of the worst games of his young career as he finished with just six points on two of 14 shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trailblazers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team above .600. The Hornets are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the over is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings overall and the Trailblazers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Trailblazers are starting to build some momentum now and their confidence will be sky-high after avenging their loss to the Clippers in a blowout win on Friday. The Hornets were also in decent shape before getting routed by the Heat in a road loss on Friday. I expect Ball to bounce back with a big performance after struggling in his last outing, but the Trailblazers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and I think that trend continues here.
