The Atlanta Hawks and the Philadelphia 76ers do battle at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in decent form as they’ve won three of their first five games, but they will be looking to bounce back in this one after getting stopped in their tracks by the Wizards in a 122-111 road loss on Thursday. John Collins led the team with 28 points and 12 rebounds on 14 of 16 shooting, Cameron Reddish added 20 points off the bench, Trae Young scored 15 points with 13 assists while Bogdan Bogdanovic chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Hawks shot a healthy 54 percent from the field, but they shot just six of 21 from the 3-point line which wasn’t enough to hang with the Wizards who poured in 100 points before the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have been in similar form as they’ve won three of their first games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Pistons in a 110-102 home win on Thursday. Joel Embiid continued to play through knee soreness and led the way with 30 points and 18 rebounds, Tobias Harris added 17 points, Tyrese Maxey tallied 16 points with six assists while Shake Milton chipped in with 13 points and five assists off the bench. As a team, the 76ers shot 50 percent from the field and 12 of 27 from the 3-point line as they took the early lead going into halftime, before holding the Pistons to just 21 points in the third quarter to push the margin out to 22 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The 76ers are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record.
The Hawks were really picking up steam before getting stopped in their tracks by the red-hot Wizards in their last outing, so they will be eager to back to winning ways, especially against their rivals, the 76ers who scraped past the Pistons on Thursday. Embiid continues to perform despite playing through knee soreness, but I don’t think he is anywhere near 100 percent, so I’m leaning towards the Hawks to pull off the upset in a close one.
