The Indiana Pacers invade the Barclays Center to do battle with the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night.
The Indiana Pacers have struggled to get going this season as they’ve won just one of their first five games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting routed by the Raptors in a 118-100 road loss on Wednesday. Malcolm Brogdon led the team with 18 points and five assists, Jeremy Lamb added 12 points off the bench, Chris Duarte scored 14 points while Myles Turner chipped in with 10 points. as a team, the Pacers shot 48 percent from the field and 10 of 29 from the 3-point line, but they were hardly competitive in this one as they fell behind early and trailed by as many as 23 points. The Pacers committed a total of 23 turnovers while getting outrebounded by 58-40. Justin Holiday had a rough night as he scored just three points on one of eight shooting.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets have been in rough shape themselves as they’ve won just two of their first five games and they will be hoping to bounce back after getting routed by the Heat in a 106-93 home loss on Wednesday. Kevin Durant led the team with 25 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks, Joe Harris added 15 points, James Harden scored 14 points with seven assists while Bruce Brown chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Nets shot 38 percent from the field and 14 of 43 from the 3-point line as they kept the Heat in check to take a narrow lead into halftime, but they couldn’t find their offense in the second half where the Heat outscored them by 57-42. Patty Mills has been a rock for the Nets so far, but he had a night to forget in this one as he scored just four points on one of nine shooting off the bench.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pacers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record. The Nets are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 home games, 15-3 ATS in their last 18 games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings in Brooklyn, the Pacers are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall and the Pacers are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings in Brooklyn.
The Pacers have yet to really find their groove this season and things are about to get tougher as Malcolm Brogdon has already been ruled out with a hamstring injury. The Nets haven’t been much better as they’ve won just two of their first five games and they have their own injuries to deal with, but the Nets still have more than enough firepower to take advantage of a shorthanded Pacers team here, even with Harden still trying to play off the rust from his lengthy layoff. Give me the Nets to get the job done behind big games from Durant and Mills.
