The Miami Heat play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the FTX Arena on Friday night.
The Charlotte Hornets have been in fine form as they’ve won four of their first five games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Magic in a 120-111 road win on Wednesday. Miles Bridges led the team with 31 points on 11 of 21 shooting, Gordon Hayward added 24 points with five assists on nine of 13 shooting, Jordan McDaniels scored 16 points off the bench while Mason Plumlee chipped in with 14 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Hornets shot 51 percent from the field and 14 of 30 from the 3-point line as they got off to a decent start to take a narrow lead into halftime, before having to rally behind their defense in the fourth quarter where they held the Magic to just 18 points to overcome a 12-point deficit.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat have won three of their first four games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after routing the Nets in a 106-93 road win on Wednesday night. Bam Adebayo led the team with 24 points and nine rebounds, Jimmy Butler racked up 17 points with 14 rebounds, seven assists and four steals, PJ Tucker scored 15 points while Tyler Herro chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Magic shot just 39 percent from the field and eight of 29 from the 3-point line but this win was all about their effort on the defensive end as they trailed going into halftime, before holding the Nets to just 42 points in the second half to pull off another statement win for the Heat this season.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games, 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games against a team above .600 and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Heat are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a win and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 home games against a team with a winning road record.
Head to head, the over is 5-0 in the last five meetings overall and the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Miami.
The Hornets have hit the ground running this season and they are coming into this one with plenty of momentum after beating the Magic on Wednesday. The Heat have been building nicely so far with solid wins over the Bucks and now the Nets, so they too will be growing in confidence coming into this one. The Hornets will be shorthanded in this one as Terry Rozier and PJ Washington have both been ruled out, while the Heat will just about be at full strength at home in this one. This should be a close contest, but I’m taking the Heat to get the job done at home behind big games from Adebayo and Butler.
