The Charlotte Hornets and the Orlando Magic duke it out at the Amway Center on Wednesday night.
The Charlotte Hornets started their seasons with three wins on the trot, but they will now be looking to bounce back after getting stopped by the Celtics in a 140-129 overtime home loss on Monday. Miles Bridges led the team with 25 points, 10 rebounds and three assists on 11 of 22 shooting, LaMelo Ball racked up 25 points with nine assists, Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 19 points with nine rebounds while Gordon Hayward chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 44 percent from the field and 19 of 44 from the 3-point line as they squandered a 12-point lead, before getting blown out in the overtime period by 18-7.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have lost three of their first four games and are coming into this one fresh off a 107-90 loss at Miami on Monday. Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner each scored 15 points, Cole Anthony added 12 points with nine rebounds and five assists while RJ Hampton chipped in with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists off the bench. As a team, the Magic shot just 40 percent from the field and 12 of 44 from the 3-point line as they were ice-cold to start the game and were always fighting an uphill battle after scoring just 15 points in the first quarter. Terrence Ross had a night to forget as he finished scoreless on zero of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 25-11-1 ATS in their last 37 games against a team with a losing record, 7-1 ATS in their last eight games as a road favorite and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Magic are 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 home games, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings in Orlando, the Hornets are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Hornets are 14-5 ATS in the last 19 meetings in Orlando.
The Hornets will be kicking themselves after allowing the Celtics to slip through their fingers in their overtime loss on Monday, so I expect them to be ready for a rebuilding Magic team who just got blown out by the Heat. The combination of Suggs and Anthony is slowly getting better for the Magic and they could pull off the upset if Ross can have a bounce-back performance off the bench in this one, but I’m sticking with the more reliable Hornets to get the win behind Ball and Bridges in this one.
