The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Atlanta Hawks at the Smoothie King Center on Wednesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in decent shape as they’ve won two of their first three games and they will be looking to stay hot after routing the Pistons in a 122-104 home win on Monday. Trae Young led the team with 32 points and nine assists on 13 of 29 shooting, John Collins added 22 points on nine of 14 shooting, Cameron Reddish scored 17 points off the bench while Kevin Huerter and Bogdan Bogdanovic each scored 14 points. As a team, the Hawks shot 51 percent from the field and 12 of 32 from the 3-point line as they set the tone by holding the Pistons to just 18 points in the first quarter to take the early double-digit lead, before pushing the margin out to 23 points.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans will be feeling much better with themselves after putting a halt to a three-game skid with a 107-98 road win at Minnesota on Monday. Brandon Ingram led the team with 27 points and nine rebounds, Jonas Valanciunas added 22 points with 23 rebounds and two blocks, Devonte’ Graham added 21 points with seven assists while Nickeil Alexander-Walker chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 44 percent from the field and 10 of 30 from the 3-point line as they took control of the game early and led by 11 points at halftime, before making another run in the fourth quarter to seal their first win of the season.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a losing record, 0-4 ATS in their last four games as a road favorite and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a win of more than 10 points. The Pelicans are 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings in New Orleans, the Hawks are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans and the Hawks are 7-0 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Hawks will be looking to build some momentum after making light work of the Pistons in a dominant win on Monday, so I like their chances against a shorthanded Pelicans team who only just claimed their first win after three losses to start the season. The Hawks are 15-6 ATS in their last 21 games against a team with a losing record and they are 7-0 ATS in the last seven meetings overall. I’m keeping it simple and taking the Hawks to get the win and cover in this one.
