The Charlotte Hornets pay a visit to the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center on Sunday afternoon.
The Charlotte Hornets have hit the ground running this season as they are coming into this one looking for a third straight win after blowing past the Cavaliers in a 123-112 road win on Friday. Miles Bridges led the team with 30 points on 13 of 24 shooting, Gordon Hayward added 18 points with nine assists, Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 25 points on nine of 13 shooting off the bench while LaMelo Ball chipped in with 17 points, six assists and five steals. As a team, the Hornets shot a healthy 52 percent from the field and 13 of 32 from the 3-point line as they struggled early on and trailed going into halftime, before taking over in the second half where they poured in 69 points to win easily in the end.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets will be aiming for a second straight victory after rallying past the 76ers in a 114-109 road win on Friday. Kevin Durant led the team with a triple-double of 29 points with 15 rebounds and 12 assists, LaMarcus Aldridge added 23 points on 10 of 12 shooting off the bench while James Harden chipped in with 20 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. As a team, the Nets shot 46 percent from the field and 12 of 38 from the 3-point line as they struggled early on and trailed by as many as 14 points, before they went on a pivotal 19-6 run in the fourth quarter to escape with the much-needed win after dropping their season opener.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games, 1-6 ATS in their last seven games as a road underdog and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games playing on one days’ rest. The Nets are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 home games and 17-5 ATS in their last 22 games as a favorite.
Head to head, the under is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall, the Hornets are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and the Hornets are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings in Brooklyn.
The Hornets are coming into this game with plenty of confidence after winning their first two games, so they’re looking like a dangerous team coming into this matchup. The Nets will be relieved that they were able to bounce back from their blowout loss in the season opener and it’s no surprise that it was Durant who led the way with a monster triple-double performance. The way these two teams have been playing, I like the Nets to claim their first home win in this one, but with the line at almost double-digits, I’m sticking with the Hornets to hang around just long enough to get the cover.
