The Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers duke it out at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Saturday night.
The Atlanta Hawks will be gunning for a second straight win to start the season after making light work of the Mavericks in a 113-87 home win on Thursday. Cameron Reddish led the team in scoring with 20 points off the bench, Trae Young steered the offense with 19 points and 14 assists while John Collins chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists and two blocks. As a team, the Hawks shot 47 percent from the field and 15 of 35 from the 3-point line as they took a seven-point lead going into halftime, before running away with it in the third quarter where they held the Mavericks to just 20 points to lead by as many as 30 points.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat to start the season after getting routed by the Hornets in a 123-112 home loss last night. Collin Sexton led the team in scoring with 33 points on 13 of 21 shooting, Ricky Rubio added 15 points with 10 assists while Lauri Markkanen and Evan Mobley each scored 13 points. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 51 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they led for most of the first half, before getting blown out in the second half where the Hornets exploded for 69 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on one days rest and 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games against a team with a losing record. The Cavaliers are 15-41-1 ATS in their last 57 games against a team with a winning record and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days rest.
Head to head, the over is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings in Cleveland, the Hawks are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Cleveland and the Hawks are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings overall.
The Cavaliers have shown glimpses of their potential in their first two games, but they continue to leak points on the defensive end which only spells trouble against a Hawks team coming fresh off a dominant win over the Mavericks. Sexton needs to have another massive game in order for the Cavaliers just to hang in the contest, but I don't see that happening as the Hawks should be more than good enough to get the win here.
