The New York Knicks invade the Amway Center to do battle with the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
The New York Knicks will be looking to stay hot after outlasting the Celtics in a thrilling 138-134 double overtime win over the Celtics on Wednesday. Julius Randle led the way with 35 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, Evan Fournier looked great with his new team as he added 32 points while RJ Barrett chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Knicks shot 48 percent from the field and 17 of 45 from the 3-point line as they escaped with the narrow win despite a game-high 46 points from the Celtics’ Jaylen Brown. On the defensive end, the Knicks held the Celtics to just 41 percent shooting from the field and Jayson Tatum to just seven of 30 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic will be hoping to bounce back after getting thrashed by the Spurs in a 123-97 road loss on Wednesday. Mo Bamba led the team with 18 points, four assists and four blocks, Terrence Ross added 15 points off the bench while Wendell Carter Jr. chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Magic shot just 40 percent from the field and nine of 29 from the 3-point line and that was mainly because their starting backcourt struggled as Cole Anthony and Jalen Suggs combined for just 20 points on six of 26 shooting with six turnovers.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 road games, 22-6 ATS in their last 28 games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a road favorite. The Magic are 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine home games and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 games as an underdog.
Head to head, the under is 4-0-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Knicks are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings in Orlando and the Knicks are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
The Knicks came out firing and started their season with a bang by taking down the Celtics in a thriller on Wednesday, but there’s always a chance of a letdown performance after such an emotional double-overtime win. However, the Magic really struggled against the Spurs in their season opener and they’re going to have their hands full if their starting backcourt duo has another quiet night. This game should be close for the most part, but in the end, I have the Knicks pulling away for the win and cover behind another big game from Randle.
