The Washington Wizards play host to the Indiana Pacers at the Capital One Arena on Friday night.
The Indiana Pacers will be hoping to bounce back after falling painfully short to the Hornets in a 123-122 road loss on Wednesday night. Domantas Sabonis led the way with 33 points and 15 rebounds on 13 of 19 shooting, Malcolm Brogdon added 28 points with 11 assists while Chris Duarte chipped in with 27 points on nine of 17 shooting. As a team, the Pacers shot 46 percent from the field and 17 of 47 from the 3-point line as they hit the ground running and poured in 75 points in the first half to lead by as many as 23 points, before losing by the smallest margin as Sabonis missed on the potential game-winner in the final seconds.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards will be looking for a second straight win to start the season after blowing past the Raptors in a 98-83 road win on Wednesday. Bradley Beal led the team with 23 points with four assists and four steals, Montrezl Harrell provided the spark off the bench with 22 points and nine rebounds on nine of 11 shooting while Spencer Dinwiddie chipped in with 13 points and six assists. As a team, the Wizards shot 44 percent from the field and just five of 27 from the 3-point line, but this win was about their defense as they held the Raptors to just 37 points in the first half to build a 29-point lead.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pacers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 5-0 ATS in their last five games as an underdog. The Wizards are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite and 11-4-1 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record.
Head to head, the over is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings in Washington and the Pacers are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Washington.
The Pacers will be gutted that they blew a 23-point lead against the Hornets in their season opener, so expect them to come out firing in this one. The Wizards were surprisingly good defensively in their easy win over the Raptors and the early signs are that Beal looks to finally have some help in Washington with Harrell, Dinwiddie and Kuzma all contributing on Wednesday. This is a tricky game to pick, but the Pacers are a sneaky 5-0 ATS in their last five games as an underdog and I think that trend continues here as they escape with the minor upset behind big games from Sabonis and Brogdon.
