The Cleveland Cavaliers play host to the Charlotte Hornets at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Friday night.
The Charlotte Hornets will be aiming to stay hot after outlasting the Pacers in a 123-122 comeback win on Wednesday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 31 points, nine rebounds and seven assists, Gordon Hayward added 27 points on 10 of 22 shooting while Kelly Oubre Jr. and Ish Smith each scored 14 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 43 percent from the field and 13 of 31 from the 3-point line as they struggled in the first half and fell behind by as many as 29 points, before rally back in the second half to escape with the narrow win on a pair of free throws from PJ Washington with 4.6 seconds remaining.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers will be going into this game looking to bounce back after falling short to the Grizzlies in a 132-121 road loss on Wednesday. Jarrett Allen led the team in scoring with 25 points with three steals and three blocks on 11 of 11 shooting, Evan Mobley and Collin Sexton each scored 17 points while Darius Garland chipped in with 13 points and 12 assists. As a team, the Cavaliers shot 50 percent from the field and 14 of 38 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 41 points in the second quarter to build a double-digit lead, before pulling away in the fourth quarter where they scored another 38 points.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games, 12-5 ATS in their last 17 games as a favorite and 24-10-1 ATS in their last 35 games against a team with a losing record. The Cavaliers are 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight home games, 0-5 ATS in their last five games against a team above .600 and 15-35-1 ATS in their last 51 games as an underdog.
Head to head, the under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings overall.
The Hornets would have taken so much confidence from their thrilling comeback win over the Pacers on Wednesday and Ball looks to be in midseason form as he flirted with a massive triple-double. The Cavaliers showed plenty of fight to hang with the Grizzlies despite falling behind by double-digits early and they should be better with this game being at home, but there’s a lot to like about the Hornets’ performance on Wednesday and I like them to cover this short line.
