The Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors meet Thursday in NBA action at the Chase Center. The Los Angeles Clippers are fresh off 47 victories and their first-ever Conference Finals trip. The Golden State Warriors look for another win after beating the Lakers in their season debut.
The Los Angeles Clippers have an intriguing roster that’s capable of sneaking into the playoffs, but they can’t be taken seriously overall unless Kawhi Leonard returns from a torn ACL. Paul George looked like the player from Indiana last year, and a back court of Reggie Jackson and Eric Bledsoe isn’t terrible. Terance Mann is really starting to come into his own, and Luke Kennard is an effective when scorer when the Clippers staff decides to give him minutes. Keon Johnson was a potential steal in the NBA Draft, and maybe this is the place where Justise Winslow finally gets comfortable. Also, a healthy Serge Ibaka would go a long way to the front court depth of the Clippers, mainly backing up Ivica Zubac. The Clippers should be fine in terms of pushing for a playoff spot, but they have no chance of fighting for a title unless Kawhi returns at some point.
The Golden State Warriors are averaging 121 points on 44.1 percent shooting and allowing 114 points on 47.4 percent shooting. Stephen Curry is averaging 21 points and 10 assists, while Jordan Poole is averaging 20 points and two rebounds. Nemanja Bjelica is the third double-digit scorer and Damion Lee is dishing two assists. The Golden State Warriors are shooting 35.9 percent from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent from the free throw line. The Golden State Warriors are allowing 35.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 50 rebounds per game.
The Clippers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Thursday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Warriors are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 home games and 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The over is 4-1 in Clippers last 5 road games. The over is 5-1 in Warriors last 6 overall. The Clippers are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Golden State.
The Los Angeles Clippers still have a respectable roster and are going to win games this season, but they start the year without Ibaka and Kawhi, two key rotation players. The Golden State Warriors have a game under their belt to knock the jitters off, they beat the Lakers without playing to their full potential, and now they get a home game where the crowd will be out in full force. Tough spot for the Clippers, and we're not being asked to lay anything crazy. Give me the Warriors.
