The Atlanta Hawks and the Milwaukee Bucks meet in game one of their Eastern Conference final best of seven series from the Fiserv Forum on Wednesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks will look to build on their huge seven-game series win over the top-seeded Philadelphia 76ers following their 103-96 win in the winner take all matchup last time out. The Hawks have six players averaging double figures in scoring in the playoffs so far, led by Trae Young, who is averaging a double-double per game with team-highs of 29.1 PPG and 10.4 APG. John Collins is 2nd in scoring with 13.9 PPG and 8.3 RPG and Bogdan Bogdanovic is right behind with 13.8 PPG and 5 RPG. Danilo Gallinari has 12.5 PPG and Kevin Huerter’s on 11.6 PPG while Clint Capela is also averaging a double-double per game with 10.3 PPG and a team-high 11.6 RPG this postseason. As a team, Atlanta is averaging 105 PPG on 42.9% shooting from the field, 29.9% from three and 75.2% from the foul line while allowing 106.6 PPG on 46.1% shooting from the field and 35.2% from three in their last five games.
The Milwaukee Bucks ended up in the conference finals as well following their game seven OT win over Brooklyn, winning game seven by a final score of 115-111. Giannis Antetokoumpo leads the Bucks in scoring and rebounding with 28.8 PPG and 13.6 RPG while also chipping in 5.1 APG. Khris Middleton has 23.3 PPG with 8 RPG and 4.3 APG and Jrue Holiday’s got 15.2 PPG and a team-high 7.5 APG. Brook Lopez is also chipping in 13 PPG and 7.2 RPG in the playoffs. As a team, Milwaukee is averaging 118.5 PPG on 48.2% shooting from the field, 37.9% from three and 75.3% from the foul line while allowing 112.7 PPG on 45.3% shooting from the field and 38% from three in their last five games.
Atlanta is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a win while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as an underdog. Milwaukee is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 conference finals games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the under is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games as a favorite. The under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get why the Bucks would be favored in game one, as there aren’t many players like Giannis in the world and he causes a bit of a matchup issue for the Hawks. With that said, this Hawks team is scrappy and just took out a Sixers team that’s loaded with talent and we saw the perils of not hitting your free throws against this Atlanta team and we saw Giannis struggle fro the foul line in the series with Brooklyn. The points left behind at the line could be big in this game and in the series, especially from a cover standpoint. I’ll take the points with the Hawks in this one.
