The Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets face off in Game 5 of their Western Conference NBA playoff showdown at the Pepsi Center. This series is currently tied 2-2.
So far this has been a back and forth series. After Portland was able to win the first game of the series, Denver won the next two games. In the last game, it was the Trail Blazers that were able to win 115-95.
For the Trail Blazers it’s mostly been the Damian Lillard show, but in the last game it was more of a balanced attack that got the job done. Lillard only finished with 10 points, but he also added 10 assists. The leader of the last game was Norman Powell who finished with 29 points, two rebounds, and one assist. When the Trail Blazers have struggled this season it’s been the defense that has really let them down. Two games ago, Portland gave up 120 two games ago and if they want to find success in this game they need the defense to be better. If the defense struggles in this game it’s going to give the Nuggets a chance to take the series lead.
On the other side of this matchup is the Denver Nuggets who’s offense has been inconsistent this series and that needs to be better in this game. In the last game, the Nuggets offense could only manage 95 points and that led to the defeat. Nikola Jokic was the best player in that last game but he only finished with 16 points and nine rebounds. On the season, Jokic is averaging 26.4 points while shooting 56.6 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from behind the three point line. In this game, they need Jokic to have a big game. Will Barton is dealing with a hamstring injury and he is expected to miss this game.
The Trail Blazers are 6-2 against the spread in the last 8 meetings. Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Denver. Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
I expect at home, Denver is going to get their offense going, and that is going to be the difference in this game. Back the Nuggets to find a way to cover this spread. In terms of the total I expect the pace to be fast and the over will cash.
