The Phoenix Suns look to take a 2-0 series lead against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 2 at the PHX Arena on Tuesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers will be hoping to bounce back and level the series after dropping the series opener to the Suns in a 99-90 home loss in Game 1. LeBron James didn’t look to be at 100 percent health as he finished with just 19 points with seven rebounds and 10 assists, Dennis Schroder added 14 points while Anthony Davis chipped in with 13 points, seven rebounds and three blocks. As a team, the Lakers shot just 43 percent from the field and seven of 26 from the 3-point line but you could tell early on that it wasn’t going to be their night as Anthony Davis could never find his groove on offense and he had no answer for the Suns’ DeAndre Ayton who made 10 of 11 from the field. Anthony Davis shot just five of 16 from the field and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored just seven points on two of nine shooting.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns will be full of confidence after making a statement in their gritty win over the Lakers in the series opener. Devin Booker came ready to play as he led the team with 34 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, DeAndre Ayton needed to have a big game and he delivered with 21 points and 16 rebounds on 10 of 11 shooting while playing great defense against the Lakers’ Anthony Davis. As a team, the Suns shot 46 percent from the field and nine of 28 from the 3-point line but this win was about their defense as they kept the two-headed monster of James and Davis quiet all game. Cameron Payne was ejected for shoving the Lakers’ Alex Caruso which resulted in a bunch of techs but the biggest concern is the health of Chris Paul who looked to injure his shoulder late in the game.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine road games, 6-13 ATS in their last 19 games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Suns are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine playoff games as an underdog, 35-15-1 ATS in their last 51 games against a team with a winning record and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings overall and the Lakers are 6-13-1 ATS in the last 20 meetings in Phoenix.
The Suns did a great job of taking care of business in the series opener, but they will need to play even better in Game 2 as the Lakers will surely come out swinging in this one. Ayton had a massive game for the Suns and they’ll need another big game from him, but I’m looking for Davis to bounce back and have a massive game after his poor showing on Sunday. This should be another close contest and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Lakers levelled the series here, but the Suns showed that they’re for real and I think they keep homecourt advantage with a narrow win in this one.
