The Miami Heat play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the American Airlines Arena on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in decent shape lately as they’ve won four of their past six games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the slumping Raptors in a 110-101 road win on Tuesday. Talen Horton-Tucker led the team in scoring with 17 points and six assists off the bench, Markieff Morris added 15 points with nine rebounds, while Marc Gasol and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope each scored 13 points. As a team, the Lakers shot 49 percent from the field and 18 of 40 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates and completely dominated the first half to lead by as many as 34 points, before easing off in the second half as the Raptors rallied late to keep the final scores respectable. Six players finished in double figures in scoring but what was impressive was their defense as they held the Raptors to just five of 33 from the 3-point line.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat have been in good form lately as they were riding a four-game win streak before getting stopped in their tracks by the Grizzlies in a 124-112 home loss on Tuesday. Jimmy Butler led the team with 28 points and five assists on 11 of 16 shooting, Tyler Herro added 19 points off the bench, Bam Adebayo scored a triple-double of 18 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists while Victor Oladipo chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Heat shot 53 percent from the field and 13 of 33 from the 3-point line, but it still wasn’t enough to hang with the Grizzlies who were just hot all game after pouring in 37 points in the first quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 0-5 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record, 1-5 ATS in their last six games as an underdog and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Heat are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games, 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall and the Lakers are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
The Lakers have done well to keep their heads above water despite injuries to their two best players and they looked great in their big win over the Raptors on Tuesday. The Heat were on a nice run before their loss to the Grizzlies and they’re only getting better as they get healthier, especially with Oladipo in the lineup now. It’s tempting to take the Lakers with the points, but this is just the type of game the Heat have to win if they want to be serious title contenders. The Lakers are only 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall and I think that trend continues here as the Heat should be too good.
