The New Orleans Pelicans play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in fine form as they’ve won six of their past 10 games, but they will be hoping to snap a two-game skid after getting routed by the Suns in a 111-94 road loss on Sunday. Montrezl Harrell led the team in scoring with 23 points on 10 of 13 shooting off the bench, Dennis Schroder added 22 points while Talen Horton-Tucker chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Lakers shot just 41 percent from the field and a miserly five of 25 from the 3-point line as they never really threatened after falling behind by 15 points going into halftime. Markieff Morris scored just two points on one of six shooting, while Wesley Matthews finished scoreless on zero of five shooting.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been in decent shape as they’ve won three of their past five games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the surging Nuggets in a 113-108 road win on Sunday. Zion Williamson led the team with 30 points on nine of 13 shooting, Brandon Ingram added 30 points with eight assists while Nickeil Alexander-Walker chipped in with 20 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 48 percent from the field and eight of 28 from the 3-point line as they took control of the game with 36 points in the second quarter to lead by as many as 10 points, before closing the game on a 9-4 run in the final 57 seconds of the fourth quarter to escape with the hard-fought win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games as a road underdog, 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Pelicans are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-1 in the last six meetings in New Orleans, the Lakers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in New Orleans and the Lakers are 3-0-1 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Lakers will again be without their two best players in LeBron James and Anthony Davis and they didn’t look too good without them in Sunday’s loss to the Suns. The Pelicans haven’t been at their best lately as they’re still searching for consistency, but they looked great in their upset win over the Nuggets and they will be loving the chance to beat up on the Lakers while they’re shorthanded.
