The Philadelphia 76ers play host to the San Antonio Spurs at the Wells Fargo Center on Sunday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have been in a rut as they’ve lost four of their past seven games, but they will be looking to build some momentum after snapping a two-game skid with a 104-77 home win over the Magic on Friday. Rudy Gay led the team in scoring with 19 points off the bench, Derrick White and Dejounte Murray each scored 17 points while Patty Mills chipped in with 13 points. As a team, the Spurs shot 44 percent from the field and 10 of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled to get going and quickly found themselves trailing by 13 points in the first quarter, before taking control of the game in the second quarter where they held the Magic to just 10 points.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have been in fine form as they’ve won eight of their past 10 games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after blowing past the Wizards in a 127-101 road win on Friday. Joel Embiid led the team with 23 points on eight of 11 shooting, Shake Milton and Furkan Korkmaz each scored 18 points off the bench while Tobias Harris and Seth Curry each scored 14 points. As a team, the 76ers shot 54 percent from the field and 11 of 21 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with their defense by holding the Wizards to just 15 points in the first quarter, before making it a blowout in the second half where they poured in 64 points. Embiid left the game after landing awkwardly following a dunk and is expected to miss at least two weeks.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win and 4-1 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a home record above .600. The 76ers are 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points and 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall.
Head to head, the under is 12-5 in the last 17 meetings overall and the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Philadelphia.
The Spurs haven’t been anywhere near their best lately, but they will be keen to build on their dominant win over the Magic, while the 76ers are coming into this one with plenty of momentum as they’ve won eight of their last 10 games. Joel Embiid is expected to miss at least two weeks which is a big loss to the 76ers, but Ben Simmons is expected to be available and the role players have shown they can pick up the slack in his absence. This should be a close one, but I’m sticking with the 76ers to get the narrow win in this spot.
