Team LeBron and Team Durant collide in the 2021 NBA All-Star game at the State Farm Arena on Sunday night.
LeBron James selected Giannis Antetokounmpo with the first overall pick and rounded out his starting five with Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. Damian Lillard was his first pick in the second round, along with Ben Simmons, Chris Paul, Jaylen Brown and Paul George, so it looks like they have all bases covered here, but what I’m most excited about is the combination of Curry and Lillard who are the two deadliest shooters from deep. Team James will be coached by Quin Snyder who deserves the role for what he’s done with the Jazz this season.
Kevin Durant won’t be playing in the All-Star game as he is still recovering from a left hamstring injury, but he was voted as captain and selected Kyrie Irving, Joel Embiid, Kawhi Leonard, Bradley Beal and James Harden. Devin Booker was Durant’s first pick in the second round, but due to injury, he will be replaced by Mike Conley. However, they have plenty of depth in Jayson Tatum, Zach LaVine, Zion Williamson and Julius Randle. It was no surprise at all that Durant chose his teammates in Irving and Harden, but with Booker recently pulling out, it does seem like they lack a bit of scoring punch and balance compared to Team LeBron.
LeBron James did a nice job building an All-Star roster to compliment his talents as just about everyone has All-Star experience, they have two of the best wing players in James and Antetokounmpo and two of the league’s best snipers in Curry and Lillard. Team Durant is obviously not to scoff at as they have the best big man in Embiid, scorers like Harden, Beal and Irving and x-factors like Kawhi Leonard and Zion Williamson. It’s an All-Star game, so you never know what type of effort you’re going to see from these players, especially in this current season with players dealing with so many interruptions, but with Durant and Booker not playing, I’m definitely leaning towards Team LeBron to get the win this year.
