The Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies do battle once again at the FedExForum on Friday night.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been in pretty good shape lately as they’ve won six of their past nine games, but they will be looking for payback after last night’s 122-94 road loss to the Grizzlies. Kawhi Leonard led the team in scoring with 17 points and seven assists, Serge Ibaka and Paul George each scored 13 points while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 12 points, but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Clippers shot just 40 percent from the field and 12 of 34 from the 3-point line as they allowed 37 points in the second quarter to fall behind going into halftime, before getting run off the court in the second half where they were outscored by 61-41.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in decent form as they’ve now won five of their last nine games after last night’s dominant win over the Clippers. Tyus Jones led the team off the bench with 20 points on nine of 11 shooting in just 15 minutes of action, Dillon Brooks added 19 points while Ja Morant and Jonas Valanciunas each scored 16 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 54 percent from the field and 11 of 19 from the 3-point line as they got off to a slow start, before dominating from the second quarter onwards as they jumped all over the Clippers defensively and reaped the rewards. As a team, the Grizzlies committed just six turnovers while sharing the ball with confidence to finish with 27 assists.
Looking at the betting trends, the Clippers are 21-9 ATS in their last 30 road games, 5-0 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days’ rest and 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record. The Grizzlies are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games playing on zero days’ rest and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team above .600.
Head to head, the over is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings overall.
The Clippers were in great form as they had won six of their last seven road games, before getting ambushed by the young Grizzlies last night, so they will be eager for some revenge in this one. Morant didn’t have to do too much last night as Jones was simply on fire, but it was a real team effort as the Grizzlies were swarming on defense while taking care of the ball on offense. It’s always tough to beat the same team twice in a row, but I think the Grizzlies are good enough to at least get the cover here.
