The Washington Wizards play host to the Denver Nuggets at the Capital One Arena on Wednesday night.
The Denver Nuggets have been in decent form as they were riding a three-game win streak before getting stopped by the Celtics in a 112-99 road loss last night. Nikola Jokic led the team with 43 points, six rebounds and five assists on 16 of 23 shooting, Jamal Murray added 25 points with six assists while Frank Campazzo chipped in with 15 points, but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Nuggets shot 48 percent from the field and 15 of 42 from the 3-point line as they hung with the desperate Celtics until late in the third quarter where they took the game away with a pivotal 20-8 run. JaMychal Green had a night to forget as he scored just two points on one of seven shooting while Michael Porter Jr. finished scoreless on zero of eight shooting.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in decent form lately as they’ve won three of their past five games and they will be aiming for a season-high third straight victory after blowing past the Rockets in a 131-119 home win on Monday. Bradley Beal led the team with 37 points on 14 of 24 shooting, Russell Westbrook racked up a triple-double of 16 points with 13 rebounds and 15 assists while Rui Hachimura chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds. As a team, the Wizards shot a healthy 52 percent from the field and 12 of 30 from the 3-point line as they took the narrow lead at halftime after pouring in 38 points in the first quarter, before holding the Rockets to just 20 points in the third quarter to build a comfortable 18-point lead.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nuggets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games playing on zero days’ rest and 6-15-1 ATS in their last 22 games against a team below .400. The Wizards are 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on one days’ rest and 1-5 ATS in their last six home games against a team with a winning road record.
Head to head, the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings overall, the Nuggets are 2-7 ATS in the last nine meetings in Washington and the Nuggets are 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings overall.
The Nuggets were in pretty good shape before last night’s loss to the Celtics, but a loss to the Wizards would really have them concerned, especially because Jokic has been in MVP form. The Wizards have come to life over their past two games as they’re starting to play defense, but I think their nice little run is about to end as the Nuggets should be too good here. This could be a close contest, but I'm sticking with the Nuggets to cover this short line.
