The Atlanta Hawks invade the TD Garden to do battle with the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in rough shape lately as they’ve lost seven of their past eight games and they will be hoping to put an end to a four-game skid after getting routed by the Knicks in a 123-112 road loss on Monday. Trae Young led the team with 23 points and eight assists, John Collins added 19 points while Cameron Reddish and Danilo Gallinari each scored 16 points. As a team, the Hawks shot 42 percent from the field and 11 of 33 from the 3-point line as they clawed back from an early double-digit deficit to lead by seven points midway through the third quarter, only to go ice-cold when it mattered most as they managed just 22 points in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in a rut lately as they’ve lost four of their past six games, but they will be feeling much better after last night’s 112-99 home win over the Nuggets. Jaylen Brown led the team with 27 points and five assists on 11 of 20 shooting, Jayson Tatum added 21 points with eight assists while Kemba Walker chipped in with 17 points, but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Celtics shot 48 percent from the field and 15 of 42 from the 3-point line as they struggled to shake off the Nuggets until late in the third quarter where they went on a pivotal 20-8 run to pull away late and come away with the much-needed win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games against a team with a winning home record and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Celtics are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games, 7-2 ATS in their last nine games playing on zero days’ rest and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the Hawks are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Boston.
The Hawks have really struggled lately and they will be low on confidence after blowing a winnable game against the Knicks on Monday, while the Celtics will be feeling relieved after stopping their skid with a much-needed win over the Nuggets last night. It’s always tricky to bet on a team playing the second game of a back to back set, but the Celtics are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games playing on zero days’ rest and I think they can carry last night’s momentum into this one. This should be a close one, but I’m sticking with the Celtics to get the win and cover at home.
