The Dallas Mavericks play host to the Atlanta Hawks at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have been in a rut lately as they've lost four of their past six games, but they will be looking to build some momentum after snapping a three-game skid with a 132-121 home win over the Raptors on Saturday. Trae Young led the way with 28 points and 13 assists, Clint Capela added 23 points with 16 rebounds and four blocks while John Collins and Kevin Huerter each scored 19 points. As a team, the Hawks shot a sizzling 56 percent from the field and 19 of 36 from the 3-point line as they took control of the game with 38 points in the second quarter, before running away with it in the second half where they scored 66 points.
Meanwhile, the Dallas Mavericks haven't been at their best as they've lost seven of their past 10 games, but they will be gunning for a third straight win after taking down the Timberwolves in a 127-122 home win on Monday. Kristaps Porzingis led the team with 27 points, 13 rebounds and four assists, Luka Doncic added 26 points with five assists, Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 24 points off the bench while Josh Richardson chipped in with 18 points and eight assists. As a team, the Mavericks shot 51 percent from the field and 12 of 34 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates with 43 points in the first quarter to lead by as many as 25 points, before escaping with the narrow win as the Timberwolves rallied with 45 points in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games playing on three or more days rest. The Mavericks are 0-8 ATS in their last eight home games, 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a losing record and 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall, the Hawks are 11-3 ATS in the last 14 meetings overall and the Hawks are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Dallas.
The Hawks have finally started to heat up again and it's no surprise that it is Young who has led the way over the past few wins. You could say the same for the Mavericks who look to have moved on from a poor January. I see why the Mavericks are favored at home, but the Hawks looked great in their win over the Raptors and I think they can pull off the minor upset in this spot.
