The Portland Trailblazers pay a visit to the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on Saturday night.
The Portland Trailblazers have been in a bit of a rut lately as they’ve lost three of their last four games and because their last game was postponed, they haven’t seen the court since their painful 104-101 loss to the Rockets on Thursday. Damian Lillard led the team with 30 points and nine assists on 11 of 23 shooting, Gary Trent Jr. drained seven 3-pointers on his way to 23 points, Anfernee Simons scored 14 points off the bench while Enes Kanter chipped in with 13 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks. As a team, the Trailblazers shot just 41 percent from the field and 17 of 41 from the 3-point line as they squandered an early 20-point lead to fall behind by as many as 13 points, before seeing their fourth-quarter rally come up just short as Simons missed on a chance to send the game into overtime at the buzzer. Rodney Hood scored just two points on one of five shooting, while Carmelo Anthony finished with just six points on three of 15 shooting.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls have been in poor form as they’ve lost six of their past nine games and because their last game was postponed, they haven’t played since their 119-103 loss to the Celtics on Monday. Zach LaVine led the team with 30 points on 11 of 19 shooting, Lauri Markkanen added 18 points while Thaddeus Young chipped in with 16 points, nine rebounds and nine assists off the bench. As a team, the Bulls shot 46 percent from the field and 17 of 39 from the 3-point line as they allowed 33 points in the first quarter and trailed by as many as 22 points in a game in which they never looked likely. The Bulls committed 18 turnovers while allowing the Celtics to shoot over 50 percent from the field.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trailblazers are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games as a road underdog and 0-5 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a losing home record. The Bulls are 1-4 ATS in their last five games as a favorite and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings overall, the Trailblazers are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings overall and the Trailblazers are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Chicago.
The Trailblazers have struggled without their second best player in CJ McCollum and they will again be without Robert Covington and Derrick Jones Jr. which puts a lot of pressure on Lillard to carry the offense. The Bulls have had to deal with injuries of their own as they Wendell Carter Jr. is expected to miss at least four weeks, but LaVine has been in good form while Markkanen is improving as the season progresses. It’s hard to pick between these two struggling squads, but the Trailblazers are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings in Chicago and I think they can escape with the much-needed win here behind a big game from Lillard.
